Terms of Use

Agreement to Terms. To honor the convictions and protect the rights of minors, you must be at least 13 years old to post a statement. You affirm that you are either (1) 18 years of age or older, or (2) 13 years of age or older and are either (a) an emancipated minor, or (b) have talked to your legal parent or guardian and possess their consent to submit a Statement of Conscience. You also affirm that you are fully able and competent to enter into the terms, conditions, obligations, affirmations, representations and warranties set forth in these terms, and to abide by and comply with these terms.

Copyright and Privacy. You agree to submit an original, personal Statement of Conscience and not to post anything that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from the rightful owner to post the material, or that proports to be a Statement for any person other than yourself. When you submit a Statement, you retain ownership rights and grant Conscience Studio a worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to copy, display and distribute the Statement of Conscience, or its revisions or derivative works, along with your name, state and country online or in any other media. You waive any privacy rights you may have relating to your Statement of Conscience as you are making a public statement.

Your Personal Information. In addition to the Statement of Conscience or other information that you submit for sharing online, and which is therefore available publicly on the site and to search engine "crawlers" (e.g. Google, Yahoo, etc.), we collect certain additional personally identifiable information that you disclose to us ("PII"). This PII is collected for the purpose of confirming that each Statement of Conscience is submitted by a unique individual. We may use PII to contact you about a Statement of Conscience or the website, but will not send newsletters or commercial email to you, or provide your PII to third parties such as marketers, without your permission. We will disclose PII only where such sharing is (1) permitted by you, or (2) legally required. We may also share PII when we believe it is necessary to comply with law, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, or to prevent imminent bodily harm. In addition, we collect and store "cookies" to help users navigate through the website.

Editorial Review. Although the drafting a Statement of Conscience is a profoundly personal act, the sharing of such a Statement is a community act. You agree to refrain from falsely submitting material in anyone else's name and to refrain from submitting material that is offensive, derogatory, obscene or infringing of any third party’s rights. You agree that Conscience Studio may review submissions and decide, in its sole discretion, whether to post them online, in whole or part. You also understand that Conscience Studio may edit your Statement of Conscience for technical grammatical style, spelling or length. A Statement of Conscience is a personal statement; therefore Conscience Studio will not revise content. If content concerns arise, the author will be notified to suggest specific revisions prior to posting. In addition, Conscience Studio may, at its sole discretion, remove, in whole or in part, any Statement of Conscience, for any reason or no reason, including any material it deems in violation of its standards.

Copyright Complaints. Conscience Studio respects the intellectual property of others and has a policy of complying with the take-down procedures established under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512 ("DMCA"). If you are a copyright owner and believe that any posted Statement or other content on the Conscience Studio website infringes upon your copyrights, you may submit a notification pursuant to the DMCA to Nadine Hoover at ConscienceStudio (at) gmail.com.

Disclaimers and Disputes. Conscience Studios aims to provide a forum for conscience. We hereby disclaim, however, all warranties, express and implied, relating to the Conscience Studio website and any and all liability to you arising out of the posting or non-posting of any Statement or other submission. We neither warrant nor represent that the information available through the website will enable you to achieve any particular result or outcome, legal, economic, educational, or otherwise. We will not be liable for any incidental, indirect, consequential, or special damages of any kind. You agree that any dispute arising from, relating to or in any manner connected with your Statement of Conscience or the Conscience Studio website shall be construed under and resolved in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, exclusive of its choice of law principles. Any such dispute shall be litigated only in the courts of the District of Columbia, to the personal jurisdiction of which you hereby consent.
